Tuesday/Thursday 9 am-1 pm Lecture, Friday Skills 9 am-5 pm.
The first day of class is Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Attendance is mandatory, no exceptions. Class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 am to 1 pm, and Fridays, 9 am-5 pm. The mandatory NYS state skills examination will be held on Tuesday, 8/4/2026, from 9 am-1 pm. The NYS State skills examination Makeup day is Thursday, 8/6/2026, from 9 am-1 pm if needed. Students will receive a full schedule on the first day of class. All registered students will receive a welcome email.

The Emergency Medical Technician Original course is designed for the person who plans to volunteer with their local ambulance service, or as an entry course for the person considering a career in EMS. The EMT student is taught how to assess a patient's condition and to identify and correct life-threatening problems. EMTs assess patients, utilize basic life support equipment, perform CPR, control hemorrhages, provide non-invasive shock treatment, stabilize fractures, manage environmental emergencies, perform emergency childbirth, and use a semi-automatic defibrillator.
Tuition:
- $1200.00 COURSE FEE FOR STUDENTS NOT AFFILIATED WITH AN EMS AGENCY
- $250.00 MATERIALS FEE FOR STUDENTS AFFILIATED WITH A NYS EMS AGENCY. STUDENTS AFFILIATED WITH AN EMS AGENCY SHOULD USE THE EMSMEMBEREMT CODE DURING REGISTRATION. ($250.00 fee covers all course materials, including the textbook and online access to the Jones and Bartlett e-learning system, and is non-refundable.) The fee must be paid online via credit card. No agency checks or POs accepted. The student must submit a Verification of Membership (VOM) form on the first day of class.
- PORT JEFFERSON EMS MEMBERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A PROMO CODE AFTER ACCEPTANCE INTO THE AGENCY. Deposits are non-refundable.

The candidate for the Emergency Medical Technician certification MUST BE a minimum of seventeen (17) years of age by the last day of the month in which the New York State written certifying examination for the course is scheduled.

In accordance with the provisions of the New York State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Code – Part 800, candidates for EMS certification or recertification must not have been convicted of certain crimes. The New York State Department of Health (NYS-DOH) will review ALL criminal convictions from any federal, military, or state jurisdiction to determine if such convictions fall within the scope of those specified in Part 800, or represent a potential risk or danger to patients or the public at large.

The EMT candidate is required to complete sixteen (16) hours of clinical experience.
All students MUST attend the first day of class. NO exceptions, no accommodations!
Pre-Requisites:
- To be eligible for enrollment in the course, the candidate for certification must be at least 17 years old by the last day of the month in which the State written certifying examination for the course is scheduled.
- FEMA ICS-100, IS 200, IS 700, and AWR-160. Links will be sent in the confirmation email. Completion of these online courses is required; a certificate of completion from FEMA MUST be submitted to the CIC of the program NO LATER THAN THE 4th class.
- Mandated Reporter Training: A link will be included in the confirmation email. This must be submitted to the CIC of the course no later than the 4th class.

Information regarding course reimbursement for members of an EMS agency
- Students who are members of an EMS agency may be eligible for tuition reimbursement upon successful completion and certification of the NYS Certification Examination.
- Students who are members of an EMS agency should follow NYS BEMS Policy Statement 25-07.
